Unwrapping the Layers: Men’s Engagement in Cunnilingus and the Influence of Attitudes and Beliefs

In a thought-provoking exploration of men’s attitudes toward cunnilingus, recent research dives
into why some men hesitate to engage in this aspect of intimacy. Surveying 935 straight and
bisexual/pansexual men, the study reveals that while a vast majority (94%)have performed oral
sex and enjoyed it, there remains a small yet significant segment that abstains due to negative
perceptions.

Interestingly, men who refrain from cunnilingus often harbor stronger homophobic sentiments
and possess negative views towards women’s genitals compared to their counterparts who
participate. The study suggests that personal biases and societal notions of masculinity may
shape these attitudes. Men avoiding cunnilingus also tend to shy away from behaviors
perceived as “gross,” highlighting a need for broader sexual education that addresses and
challenges these stigmas.

This research underscores the complex interplay of sexual narcissism, homophobia, and sexism
in shaping sexual preferences and behaviors, suggesting that deep-seated attitudes towards
gender and sexuality significantly influence men’s sexual practices.
