Gossip and Mate Guarding.

Have you ever wondered what women would say about potential mates if they knew their comments would remain anonymous? This was the subject of a study that reviewed 250 entries posted on a gossip website called “The Dirty.”  The men who were the subjects of these posts were from the five largest cities in the United States and Canada, and the women who wrote them were not at all restrained in their evaluations. Most of the posts were critical of the men’s personalities followed by comments relating to their emotional commitment. Surprisingly, the least number of complaints were about the sexuality and wealth of these men, and over half of them were written as a direct warning to others.  It was theorized that women may have posted these negative evaluations with the aim of decreasing their subject’s attractiveness to other women.
