Understanding masculinity isn’t as straightforward as it seems. A recent study examined how Viagra use affects perceptions of masculinity. Surprisingly, men were seen as more masculine if their female partners consistently reached orgasm. But there’s a twist—this only applied if the man didn’t have erectile dysfunction (ED) but still took Viagra. In such cases, his sexual esteem actually took a hit.
Another part of the study looked at testosterone levels. It found that men with higher “natural” testosterone levels were rated as more masculine and had better sexual esteem. Even more interesting, if a man had low testosterone but his partner frequently had orgasms, the perception of his masculinity improved. This suggests that female orgasm can boost a man’s masculinity, even if his testosterone is on the low side.
These findings make it clear that societal views on using sexual medicines like Viagra and testosterone are far from simple. Preconceived notions about these drugs shape their use and impact social perceptions in unexpected ways. So, next time you think about masculinity and sexual health, remember, it’s a lot more complex than you might imagine!
